JUNEAU -- A search is under way after a man was reported overboard from a commercial
fishing vessel in the Bering Sea.
The Coast Guard is conducting the search about 110 miles west of Togiak.
The call came in shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday that a 50-year-old Japanese man
had fallen overboard from the 226-foot fishing vessel Alaska Victory. The Coast
Guard was told the man was not wearing survival gear or a life jacket.
The Coast Guard has dispatched an airplane and helicopter to search for the man.
There are four fishing boats in the area helping search.
Coast Guard officials say weather conditions in the search area are 6-to-8-foot
seas, 20 mph winds and air temperature at 42 degrees.
